Texas Instruments is investing $60 billion in expanding semiconductor manufacturing across the country.
The funds will be used to build seven new 300 mm fabrication plants. The fabs will be located at 3 sites: Sherman, Texas; Richardson, Texas; and Lehi, Utah. When complete, the facilities will be able to produce hundreds of millions of chips every day.
These chips are key components for many major companies, including Apple, Ford, Medtronic, Nvidia, and SpaceX.
There has been a big push to bring semiconductor production back within our borders, especially as things like AI become key to economic success and national security.
Through the CHIPS and Science Act, the Department of Commerce is providing up to $1.6 billion to support America’s tech industry. Texas Instruments is just one of many companies leveraging this funding.
