Fusion energy may be one step closer to becoming a reality, thanks to Pacific Fusion’s recent $900 million Series A funding round.

The startup plans to commercialize fusion as a clean and limitless energy source. This funding shows growing investor confidence in fusion technology and its potential to reshape the global energy landscape.

Why is this important? Fusion energy offers a zero-carbon solution and has long been seen as the “holy grail” of clean energy. The funding will be used to develop technology for “net facility gain”, which is when there is more energy output than all stored energy input.

The startup was previously operating in stealth mode until this recent announcement. The funding was led by Hemant Taneja of General Catalyst, and included investors Andrew Forrest, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Elad Gil, Eric Schmidt, John Doerr, Ken Griffin, Lachy Groom, Leitmotif, Lightspeed, Lowercarbon Capital, Mustafa Suleyman, Patrick Collison, Reid Hoffman, Richard Merkin, and Trousdale Ventures.
