Lancium and QTS has announced plans for a $10 billion data center campus in Hall County, Texas. QTS will design, build and operate the data center buildings on Lancium’s campus. This will be Lancium’s third data center in the state, and proves continued hyperscale buildout in Texas’s deregulated power market. The Texas Panhandle is seeing huge growth in the AI sector, with eight data centers currently operating and 19 more in the works as of last month.

$10 billion total campus investment, which will include energy infrastructure like battery storage and solar. The site is also expected to generate 7,000 construction jobs and 350 permanent jobs.
So What: Actionable Intelligence
For investors: Lancium’s flexible compute model is worth watching. If they can successfully monetize demand response and ancillary services while running AI workloads, they’ve solved a problem most hyperscalers haven’t: how to make data centers grid-friendly without sacrificing compute economics. This could unlock a new class of AI infrastructure that’s less capital-intensive on the generation side.
For hyperscalers: The Texas buildout continues to accelerate. ERCOT’s merchant market structure, lack of capacity payments, and abundant land make it the most attractive region for gigawatt-scale deployments. If you’re not already in Texas, you’re behind.
