Amazon is ramping up its nuclear involvement by partnering with Dominion, X-energy, and Energy Northwest to develop small modular reactors (SMRs).

In a deal with X-energy, Amazon will help add over 5 GW of nuclear power by 2039. Projects include deploying four 80 MW SMRs at Columbia Generating Station and a potential 300 MW plant near Dominion Energy’s North Anna station.

Amazon has also made a deal with Energy Northwest to deploy four reactors developed by X-energy, totaling 320 MW of electricity generated.

Similar to other big tech companies like Microsoft and Google, nuclear is becoming a key part of Amazon’s clean energy strategy. They are targeting net-zero carbon by 2040.
