Alabama Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, has filed a petition to acquire the Lindsay Hill natural gas power plant from Tenaska Capital Management for $622 million.
The utility anticipates growing energy demand over the coming years, estimating an additional 1,200 megawatts required by the end of the decade. The combined-cycle gas turbine power plant would increase Alabama Power’s energy capacity by nearly 900 MW.
However, this acquisition may lead to increased costs for consumers, with an estimated rise of $3.80 per month on a typical residential bill.
